Shine a Light on NF
May 1 through May 31
Shine-A-Light on NF Illumination Campaign
This May 2026, we are excited to once again Shine-A-Light on NF through this powerful global awareness campaign that brings communities together to recognize and support individuals and families affected by neurofibromatosis (NF). By illuminating landmarks across our cities in blue and green, the official colors of NF, we join partners around the world in increasing visibility for a condition that affects approximately 1 in 3,000 people worldwide.
The Shine-A-Light on NF campaign, led by the Children’s Tumor Foundation, helps elevate public understanding of neurofibromatosis by lighting buildings, bridges, monuments, and iconic destinations across the globe. Each illuminated landmark serves as a symbol of hope, progress, and solidarity with the NF community. Together, these collective efforts spark conversation, inspire advocacy, and accelerate momentum toward improved treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
May is NF Awareness Month, a time dedicated to educating the public about neurofibromatosis and uplifting the voices of patients, caregivers, clinicians, and researchers working to advance care and discovery. Throughout the month, organizations, families, and supporters share stories, host events, and participate in advocacy efforts that help ensure NF is no longer one of the most common disorders people have never heard of.
A particularly meaningful moment during the month is World NF1 Awareness Day on May 17. This date was selected by the global NF community as a unified day of recognition to spotlight neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), the most common form of NF, and to honor the resilience of individuals living with the condition.
This year in Detroit and Cleveland, we are honored to welcome our new partner with several prominent locations, including Hudson’s Detroit, Huntington Place, GM Renaissance Center, Michigan Central Station, Terminal Tower, and Rocket Arena, helping expand the reach and visibility of this campaign across both cities.
To our returning partners, your continued support is the reason this campaign grows stronger each year. Because of you, we are able to expand awareness and advance our mission to drive bold, high-impact research that leads to better treatments and outcomes for individuals living with NF1.
Thank you again for your ongoing partnership and commitment to the NF community:
